At 56 years old, as a mother of six and grandmother of six, I can honestly say that health is one of the greatest investments I’ve ever made in myself.
My wellness journey didn’t begin with peptides. In many ways, it began decades ago. I’ve always lived an active lifestyle. Whether it was raising six children, walking, hiking, biking, working out at home, or simply staying busy caring for my family, movement has always been part of who I am.
Since around 2011, I have raised my six children as a single mother. Like many parents, especially single parents, there were years when everyone else’s needs came before my own. Between work, family responsibilities, financial pressures, and everyday life, self-care often found itself at the bottom of the list. Yet even through those busy years, I never stopped trying to stay active and make healthy choices.
My menopause journey was somewhat unique. After years of breastfeeding my children, my cycle eventually stopped in 2016 and never returned. I transitioned directly into menopause and, fortunately, never experienced many of the symptoms that women often describe, such as hot flashes or severe mood swings.
That doesn’t mean there weren’t changes. Over time, I noticed weight gain, changes in body composition, increased inflammation, joint discomfort, and the general aches and pains that many of us associate with aging. Looking back, I believe a combination of hormonal changes, stress, and life’s challenges all played a role.
By 2021, I decided it was time to become more intentional about my health. I began run/ walking a bridge weightlifting regularly, increased my activity level, and focused on building strength rather than simply losing weight. Through consistency and commitment, I lost approximately 40 pounds. I am 5’ 10” I got down to 156.
I am gluten-free, grain-free, eat mostly organic foods, and avoid soda completely. My beverages are primarily water and coffee. I’ve always believed that giving the body proper nutrition, movement, hydration, and recovery creates the best foundation for long-term health.
Over the years, I continued to educate myself and monitor my health through regular bloodwork. About a year ago, after nearly nine years without a menstrual cycle, I decided to try a natural hormone replacement approach ( compounded ) While it did restart my cycle, I ultimately decided it wasn’t the right fit for me. I also gained ten pounds . After doing more research and listening to my body, I chose to discontinue it and continue pursuing a more holistic path.
That journey eventually led me to peptides.
In October 2025, I began researching and incorporating peptides into my wellness routine. Contrary to what many people assume, my goal was not weight loss. I was primarily looking for support with inflammation, joint discomfort, recovery, gut health, and overall wellness.
I carefully documented my experience over the following months. The hardest part for me
Was injecting with a needle ! I hate needles . But I overcame the
Fear .
One of the first things I noticed was a significant improvement in the aches and pains I had been experiencing. The joint discomfort and inflammation that had become part of everyday life seemed to lessen. Recovery felt better. Movement felt easier. I simply felt better in my body.
To my surprise, I also continued to see positive changes in my body composition. I could lift heavier and recover .
Since beginning peptides, I lost an additional 20 pounds. My weight when I started this phase of my journey was approximately 156 pounds. Today, I weigh 135 pounds.
Combined with the progress I made beginning in 2021, I have lost approximately 60 pounds overall and gone from a size 16 to a size 4.
While the physical transformation has been remarkable, the greatest victories cannot be measured by a scale or clothing size. The greatest victories are feeling stronger, moving with less discomfort, having more energy, recovering better, and being able to fully enjoy life with my children and grandchildren.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that there is no magic solution. Health is built through consistency. Weightlifting, movement, nutrition, hydration, stress management, quality sleep, and a willingness to continue learning have all played important roles in my success. Peptides became one tool within that larger wellness toolbox—not a shortcut, but a complement to years of healthy habits.
My story isn’t about becoming perfect. It’s about proving to myself that even after raising six children as a single mother, navigating menopause, managing stress, and entering my mid-50s, it’s never too late to prioritize your health and become stronger than you were before.
At 56, I am not trying to turn back the clock ( though I am
Told I don’t look my age )I am simply committed to making the most of the years ahead. To get stronger not weaker .
This is my personal experience and is not intended as medical advice. Every person’s body and health journey are unique, and what worked for me may not work for someone else. If anyone would like more information just ask ! If you want to begin your own research journey reach out !
